The first time I heard about Let the Children Praise I was watching my friend sing in the choir. I remember listening to the music and thinking, “This is amazing! How do they do it?” I never thought I would be able to be apart of it myself. Then my friend asked me if I wanted to join Let the Children Praise with her. I immediately said, “Yes!” I had wanted to be in a choir for so long. This was my dream.

It was better than I imagined, and I made several lasting memories. When I needed to tell Mr. Hawkins how many hours I had practiced in a week, I had trouble counting my hours. I had practiced only once that week with the music disc. But my mom never had to tell me to practice because I would be singing all week. I never really had designated practice times. The songs would be running through my head all day around the house. I would sing them while cleaning, and I would sing them to my sister. I also loved learning to sing in different languages. I was able to sing in German, French, Yiddish, and Irish. Learning how to pronounce the words and learning what they mean was really fun. I loved singing to God in all different languages.

I learned that you can praise God with your voice in many different ways. It doesn’t matter what language you speak or what your culture is, you can praise God. Through all of the voices in this choir we are praising God.

One of the most surprising parts of being in Let the Children Praise was how quickly we were able to put the music together. Starting off singing alone and learning the music with the discs was never quite as fun as when we were all together. We had to practice on our own for the most part. But then we would have three practices together and all the music would come together so quickly. I think most of this was due to the amazing director that we have. Mr. Hawkins could get us to do amazing things with our voices. Things I didn’t even know I could do. Each year I left wishing my time with all of the amazing singers was longer. I loved singing every year I was in the choir.
